Tom Heighway was just like someone we all know. He was a father, a brother, a husband, an uncle, a soccer volunteer coach, basement musician, and a friend. Diagnosed with Leukemia in February 2003, Tom tragically passed away a short time later at the age of 50. To help keep his memory alive, his family organized a 5k run / walk with local students in mind. Since its creation, the event has raised and given away over $48,000 in college scholarships.
So if you are planning your fall run schedule, looking for a worthy cause to get involved with, or simply want to get out and exercise on a Saturday morning, mark you calendars for September 21st @8:00 a.m. beginning in the parking lot across form St. Petronelle’s Church, between Main St and Glenwood Ave just North of Hillside Ave.
My wife and I and many of our golfer friends recently attended their 4th annual golf outing on August 19, 2011. They had over eighty golfers, almost fifty sponsors and over 120 guests attended the barbecue dinner. This outing generated over $30,000 for the ladies of Mount Saint Joseph. This is an organization that is close to our hearts and we plan on attending most of their events and next year we plan on being board members for the annual golf outing.
The goal of the Mount Saint Joseph Association is to make a difference in the lives of the ladies. Each year the Association continues to enhance the ability of the Sisters and staff to make a difference in the lives of the ladies of Mount Saint Joseph. We are increasing our efforts to raise money for the Mount and looking to have an even greater impact in the years to come. Some of the money we have raised last year went toward a major hallway renovation and needed dental equipment. Through our programs such as the Autumn Leaves luncheon, The Day at the Races and The Annual Golf outing we have seen many lives changed for the better.
